Link tracking

See which social post sent a visitor to your shop

If you put a link to your shop or website in a post, you can find out which platform sent each visitor. The trick is a small tag added to the end of the link. Analytics tools such as Google Analytics read it, and your visitors never notice. Vusely can add the tags for you, only to your own links, only when you switch it on.

What you can do

  • What the tags say

Three tags are added: where the visitor came from (for example facebook), that it was social media, and a campaign name (vusely). Analytics tools group visitors by them.

  • Only your own links

Vusely tags links to your website, never other people's. A link that already carries tags of its own is left exactly as it is.

  • Where links can be clicked

Facebook and Threads captions can be clicked, so those links are tagged. Instagram captions can't be clicked, so they are left alone.

  • Your caption stays yours

The post is saved as you wrote it. The tags are added as the post goes out, and the post goes out as written if the tags would make it too long.

How it works

  1. 1

    Switch it on

In Workspace settings, open the Links tab and turn on "Track visitors from your posts".

  2. 2

    Say which website

Mia already knows the website she read when you set up. Add another address if you have one.

  3. 3

    Look in your analytics

A few days after posts go out, open your analytics tool and look at where visitors came from.

What you'll see

In Google Analytics the visitors appear under the source you posted to, with the medium "social". Tags show which platform sent a visit; they can't tell you who the visitor was.

Questions, answered

Will my followers see the tags?

They are part of the link's address, after a question mark. Most people never look at it, and it doesn't change the page they land on.

Do I need Google Analytics?

You need something that reads the tags. Google Analytics does, and many shop dashboards do too.

Is it on by default?

No. It is off until you switch it on, and you can switch it off at any time.

Does it change posts I have already made?

No. It applies to posts as they go out after you switch it on.
