Collaborators

Instagram collaborators: how the invites work

Instagram lets you invite other accounts to be collaborators on a post: a brand you stock, an artist you work with, a friend who helped. In Vusely you add their usernames under Instagram options when you write the post. The invite is sent with the post, and the other person has to accept it in Instagram. This page sticks to what Meta's pages say and says plainly where they are silent.

In short

  • Add up to 3 usernames under Instagram options on New post or Edit post.
  • Each person has to accept the invite in Instagram. Until they do, Meta lists the invite as pending.
  • Collaborators work on a feed picture, a Reel and a carousel, but not on a Story.
  • Meta's pages don't say what happens if someone declines or never answers, so check the post in Instagram.

What you can do

  • Up to 3 in Vusely

Meta's reference for creating a post says up to 3 collaborators. Another Meta page, and Instagram's own tips for Reels, say up to 5. Vusely uses the smaller number so a post isn't refused for having too many.

  • They have to accept

Meta describes each invitation as Pending or Accepted. Instagram says that when collaborators accept, more people can see the post. The invitee does this in Instagram, not in Vusely.

  • Who can be invited

Whether someone can be invited depends on their own Instagram settings, and Meta's reference says a read of collaborators returns only accounts that have collaborator tagging on. If a username is wrong or the account doesn't allow invites, Instagram may turn the post down, and Vusely tells you in a sentence.

  • Feed posts, Reels and carousels

You can add collaborators to a picture post, a Reel or a carousel. A Story can't have them, so the option isn't offered there. Collaborators are chosen fresh for each post and are not copied by Use again.

How it works

  1. 1

    Open Instagram options

On New post or Edit post, pick Instagram under Where to post, then open Instagram options. Under Collaborators (optional), type the person's username, with or without the @, and press Add. Repeat for up to 3, and press the X beside a name to remove it.

  2. 2

    Post or schedule as usual

Vusely sends the usernames to Instagram with the post. Let your collaborator know to expect it, so they look for the invite.

  3. 3

    The collaborator accepts in Instagram

The other person opens the invite in the Instagram app and accepts. Afterwards, open the post in Instagram to see how it shows, since what you see there is the final word.

If something goes wrong

If Instagram refuses the post because of the collaborators, the post is kept as one that didn't go out, with a sentence saying so. Edit it, fix or remove the usernames, and send it again. Nothing is lost.

Meta's pages list only Pending and Accepted for an invite. They don't say what happens to the post when someone declines or never answers, or exactly where the invite shows up for them, so this page doesn't either. Questions, answered

How many collaborators can I add?

Up to 3 in Vusely. Instagram's own pages mention up to 5 in places, but Meta's reference for creating a post says 3, and Vusely stays with the smaller number.

Does my collaborator need to do anything?

Yes. They have to accept the invite in Instagram. Meta lists an invite as Pending until they do.

Can I add a collaborator to a Story?

No. Meta's documentation says collaborators are not supported for Stories.
